Listing of five sensory items for autism

5 Sensory Items Ollie Loves Right Now

Our son Ollie is autistic and is super sensory -- here are five items that he uses on a daily basis to regulate himself! 1. Enclosed Indoor Trampoline Never did I think I was going to own a trampoline -- honestly, I'm still very hesitant about getting a large outdoor one, but time will tell. Ollie used to spend a LOT of time bouncing on his knees, and one day it dawned on me: a trampoline would be so much better! Ollie...

How an RV filter fixed our pool water problem

I would like to say I have a love-hate relationship with our pool after the first three months. Man have I learned a lot about pool maintenance in a short period of time! One of the things we knew about this house when we purchased it is the poor water: we have a lot of sediment in our water and iron. Let's just say our toilets are only non-orange when guests come over? It's an exhausting process trying to get rid of...

How to work from home with an autistic toddler

This post is probably for the most niche of niches, but I decided that there are probably more people out there living similar lives than we think, so if you have an autistic toddler and are working from home: this post is for you! Over the past month, I've had to start working from home and have found a few tips and tricks along the way to keep things going smoothly for both my work and my kids, specifically my son,...

How to make Homemade Uncrustables

How to make Homemade Uncrustables

*I am not being paid to promote this product and will not receive anything by you clicking the link I am providing. I just wanted to share a tool that we use consistently in our house that makes lunchtime easier for our autistic kiddos. Oliver, thankfully, is ever so slightly less of a picky eater than his older sister but he absolutely loves uncrustables. I don't know if it's because they are cold or if it's because there is no crust, but the shape is ideal to him and when he sees one he will...

Weekly Meal Plan 7/10 to 7/16

Weekly Meal Plan 7/10 to 7/16

Each week I'm going to try and share with you what we purchase for meals! Trust me, I'm no expert on budgeting or couponing but I believe we have a reasonable way to handle grocery expensive in our household. Each week, I try to plan for seven dinners -- sometimes we have plans so that helps me kind of budget ahead if that makes sense! Like this week, we have two evenings where I don't have to plan dinner because we are going out / planning take-out. So because I still planned for seven meals,...

*When we recommend a product we may use an affiliate link to do so. If you purchase a product from our link, we receive a commission. Now that we've lived in the house a week, we were itching to start painting right away! So we decided to start tackling two projects at once: the sunroom that exits out to the pool area and also the stairs that lead from upstairs into the kitchen. I've been agonizing over how to mix victorian style with a modern twist, and on Pinterest I started seeing a bunch...

Today starts a new chapter!

This afternoon we finally closed on Swan Meadow! As I type this, it still doesn't feel entirely real that this is happening. Jason and I have always imagined that we'd buy a historic home one day -- but that day is TODAY! Sunday is the big move day for us! Tomorrow Jason has to be a tent attendant at a super fun wedding, so I'll be spending the day schlepping boxes over slowly in my SUV and giving the kitchen, bathrooms, and bedrooms a good clean so they are ready for move-in! For the past...

The History of Swan Meadow

The History of Swan Meadow

Most of the information we currently know about Swan Meadow comes from its Maryland Historical Trust document and from documents concerning its "twin" home down the road (you can also view the twin, Ivingo, in the book "The Vanishing Landscape" by Shirley Hampton Hunt which we coincidentally purchased years ago as a coffee table book and were so excited to find it in there!). You can view that in its entirety here. Swan Meadow is nearly a twin house of one very similar up the road called...
